Issue date: 9/13/06 Section: Opinion
I don't know the numbers, but at least a hundred thousand students have joined facebook groups protesting a change in facebook. They dont like the most recent change to the website, and voiced their concerns on the popular facebook groups.

The most popular groups are intercollege facebook groups, these are global, and very new, I think they are only a day old, but I'm not sure, definately less than a week. They are:

Students against Facebook News Feed (Official Petition to Facebook)
278,091 members as of 3:25pm Central (too many discusion boards and posts for me to count)

Common Interest - Philosophy
Facebook News Feed SUCKS!
Organizations - Advocacy Organizations
7,574 members as of 2:27
RESTORE FACEBOOK TO BEFORE IT GOT STALKER-ISH

Common Interest - Current Events
6,029 members as of 3:25pm
Students take out their frustrations in joining groups assume that the groups must be monitered by "The Facebook Guys". I don't know what kind of rights users have to this free website or power they have in its control, but many are vary upset at the changes. These changes facebook made me decide to deactivate my account. This is the statement I left.

My deactivation statement:
Why am I deactivating my account on The Facebook? It's all the new features that I don't want. Many of the new additions to the website are things I never asked for and was never given an option in which to participate. There are so many things now on "My Page" which I never put there, that I sometimes get confused. What started off as an e-mail account with an awesome and exclusive address book has become on online world filled with information, sometimes about me, that I'm not so sure I want everyone to know.

Mainly it's the tracking feature that allow users to automatically get a rundown on my online activities just by looking at my page. of my life I'm not comfortable giving away. The most recent unwanted feature is "The Feed" which effortlessly tracks the online activities of those on my social network. Parts of the Facebook that have moved front and center like the "Feed" make Facebook a psychologically harmful environment that promotes sensationalist and unhealthy social behavior.
