Issue date: 5/10/06 Section: News
David Treber, Frostburg State University's Director of Conferences and Events, recently received the 2006 "Outstanding Individual Achievement" Award from the Association of Collegiate Conferences and Events Directors -International (ACCED-I).

"The Association of Collegiate Conferences and Events Directors (ACCED-I) provides support for professionals in this field," said Treber. "I direct contracted access to Frostburg State facilities, such as for summer camps. We have many groups that use the campus for their summer programs, such as 'Coach Wootten's Basketball Camp' and 'Maryland Girls State.'"

Treber said that, "a member of the ACCED-I, from another college, asked if I would be interested in being nominated for this award. One is given each year for 'Outstanding Individual Achievement.' There are other categories, such as for an outstanding new collegiate conferences & events director. I have been Director since 1999.

"It's an honor but it was not really an individual achievement. The award is thanks to many people on this campus who work hard serving our guests. Whether our Physical Plant staff, Frostburg Dining Services, staff at Frostburg are all outstanding and lead to a program where guests want to return summer after summer."

Greg Elkins and Bridget White are Treber's student co-coordinators. They are graduating from Frostburg this May but are returning to lead the student staff again this summer. Treber commented, "I would not have gotten that award without their dedicated work, as well as that of all the student staff. We hear complaints about college students from time to time, but what I have seen in Conferences we have outstanding students who serve summer guests so well that almost all groups return year after year."

About a year ago, Moria Morrissey, a 2005 MBA grad student, studied the Conferences and Events Office for her capstone project. Morrissey worked with Dr. Marci McClive. When a collegaue wanted to nominate Terber this award, he gave him some of the information from Morrissey's project. Morrissey's project was on institutional change, in that Frostburg State went from being the summer home of the Washington Redskins, to the summer we now have with many camp groups. The marketing theme used was "Cool Summer Nights, Warm Mountain Hospitality."
