Many in the United States view this time of the year as special. There seems to be, in addition to the gathering of family members and attitudes of sheer love and joy, an abundance of food (your belts are probably still loosened from your Thanksgiving Day meal, and its leftovers). But adding to the special holidays that give this time of the year its loving and joyful feelings is another special day, a day with an importance that extends beyond the borders of this nation. This day aims to spread awareness of a disease that chiefly effects people in lands where such meals as yours this past Thanksgiving are but dreams. Mark your calendars for December 23 for the celebration of Festivus. Summed up by its slogan, it's "for the rest of us". Made popular by the 90s sitcom "Seinfeld" in the episode, "The Strike". The core survey for Alcohol and Other Drug use at Frostburg State University has been released. By the looks of the survey, the students at FSU are not abusing alcohol and other drugs as much as they have in previous years. Conducted by the Director of the Counseling Center, Dr. Spencer Keakin, the survey is given every three years "to a representative sample of the FSU student population," according to the document. In March, 423 undergraduate and graduate students completed the survey which produced the results released. (2) comments
11/13/09 Hit & Run: Police are investigating a hit & run accident that occurred in the Sand Spring Lot. Investigation reveals a commuter student parked in the student lot to attend class and upon returning to her vehicle discovered the vehicle had been struck by another vehicle. (1) comment
